Sorry they're late--new pics!

Here are the latest socks to join the Save Our Socks campaign! Aren't they adorable? They are in great shape and still have lots of wear left in them. I'm sure they will make a child very happy.

It's been a rough week, health-wise, so I haven't been able to get a hold of the charities to see who will take these lovely socks, but I will this week (in between birthday parties and our anniversary). These socks need good homes. :-)

New socks!

I got three pair of gorgeous children's socks that had been outgrown this week. I promise to get pics up before Monday. They're beautiful, and they'll be perfect for a child's cold feet.

I hate to admit it, but I couldn't read the signature on the note, and I can't remember who promised to send these to me, so, if they're your handiwork, say so in the comments so I can mail you a thank you note.

New socks are coming!

I'm so excited!

I'll be calling around more this week to see which group would be happiest with our socks. I want them to go to the best place possible. Who wouldn't want handknit socks?

Again, please send me any of your handknit socks or other items that don't fit anymore or have holes, and I'll fix them up, wash them, and send them along to the right people. Handknits should never go in the landfill!

First socks!

Here are the first socks to ever get sent to Save Our Socks! They're perfect boot socks for a child, and you know they're cute when my daughter asked if she could have them. Yay! Thanks, Paula!!

The first pair of socks is in the mail!

A very generous knitter is sending the first pair of socks (ones that were accidentally felted and should fit a child for boot socks), and it should be here next week! How exciting!

The other thing is that there has been a request to send items to the Cheyenne River Rez. I think that's a great idea! I've been on the Navajo (Dine) Nation Reservation and Hopi Mesas, and trust me when I say it's like a third world nation in some parts of the rez. Disgusting and sad.

I'll be looking for groups/contacts for the Hopi as well. Any ideas on where to send warm woolies, please post them in the comments. Thanks!

Save Our Socks!!

Welcome!

I am hosting a new blog for a new charity to take handknit socks that have holes in them, darn them, and then send them on to a new charity. If you have any handknit socks lying around that you don't think you can fix up, don't want to fix up, or just plain have given up on, send them to me! I'll take them, evaluate how to best recycle them (either by unravelling so we can have knitters make it into new socks or by darning and washing them), and send them on to a new home.

I will be contacting local, national, and international charities to see who would take them, but my top picks right now are Afghans for Afghans, the Sioux Nation Reservation in South Dakota, and maybe even the Dulaan Project. Trust me, I'll make sure they look nice and still have lots of wear in them. Handknit socks shouldn't go into the garbage!
