Aren't they adorable? They are in great shape and still have lots of wear left in them. I'm sure they will make a child very happy.<br /><br />It's been a rough week, health-wise, so I haven't been able to get a hold of the charities to see who will take these lovely socks, but I will this week (in between birthday parties and our anniversary). How exciting!<br /><br />The other thing is that there has been a request to send items to the Cheyenne River Rez. I think that's a great idea! I've been on the Navajo (Dine) Nation Reservation and Hopi Mesas, and trust me when I say it's like a third world nation in some parts of the rez. Disgusting and sad. <br /><br />I'll be looking for groups/contacts for the Hopi as well. Any ideas on where to send warm woolies, please post them in the comments. If you have any handknit socks lying around that you don't think you can fix up, don't want to fix up, or just plain have given up on, send them to me! I'll take them, evaluate how to best recycle them (either by unravelling so we can have knitters make it into new socks or by darning and washing them), and send them on to a new home.<br /><br />If you are interested, please e-mail me at riverwalkyarns AT blogspot DOT com. I'll send you my address and answer any questions you might have.<br /><br />I will be contacting local, national, and international charities to see who would take them, but my top picks right now are Afghans for Afghans, the Sioux Nation Reservation in South Dakota, and maybe even the Dulaan Project. Trust me, I'll make sure they look nice and still have lots of wear in them.
